Summer is on its way and we're not slowing down this year!! In fact, we are running a range of workshops and regular lessons are available, too. If you want to take part in the summer school programme you can help our planning by taking a minute or two to fill out the questionnaire and email (or snailmail) it back to us.

Lessons in guitar, bass, drums, vocals, keyboards and piano are available throughout the summer. If you're an existing student then your times/days may change - just get in touch and we'll schedule you in.

Groove Performance Workshop
Change the way you play and understand music with the MMA 'Groove Performance Workshop'. The programme is spread over 2 days, with day 1 consisting of group workshops covering and playing in a plethora of different styles from rock to reggae to afro-cuban, whilst also taking an in depth look at some classic songs by artists such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and what makes them so effective. The second day will be split into band groups spending the day playing and rehearsing toward a session of band performances, including a great set from the MMA tutors. It's a great opportunity to improve your band skills and meat new musicians! Taught by Dave Evans and Pete Hedley.

Songwriting
An introduction to songwriting aimed at singers/lyricists, guitarists and pianists/keyboarders. Analysing a variety of best-selling and critically acclaimed songs we'll discuss the differences and what makes them so successful. We'll look at the importance of hook writing regardless of musical style and how to use different instruments depending on genre, etc. In the course of the workshop you'll write a complete song and perform it to friends and family. Taught by Sam Reed and Dave Evans.

Recording
Learn how to use the recording technology in MMA's own sound recording studio. This recording workshop is designed to give students an insight into the world of recording music! Split over a 3 day period, we will guide you through the fundamental techniques and practices used in the industry to record and mix a piece of music which will be written and performed by the students. Subjects covered include microphone techniques, recording basic tracks and overdubs using cutting edge recording software, drum programming (using MIDI and drum loops), mixing and using effects. Taught by Pro Tools expert Dan Donovan.

A Day Of Rhythm
An intense one-day workshop for all musicians to boost the understanding of notated rhythm and its construction. Taught by the Academy's head of bass and head of drums the aim of the workshop is to improve the recognition of written rhythm and erase the fear of dealing with notation. It will cover topics such as 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16 notes and associated rests, triplets and reading swing feel. All this will be explained, demonstrated and practiced using vocalisation and percussive group exercises, making it fun and applicable to the music you love to play whilst incorporating some world rhythms along the way. Taught by Pete Hedley and Dave Evans.
